The Answers You Need To Care for Your JMT Woodworks Board
HOW DO I WASH MY CUTTING BOARD OR CHARCUTERIE BOARD?
Washing your board after every use is very important. You can use warm soap and water to clean it but be sure to wash BOTH sides. People make the mistake of only washing the top and that can eventually make the board warp. Make sure to let the board dry thoroughly. DO NOT PUT IN THE DISHWASHER.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY BOARD?
Maintaining the board is very important. If a board is maintained it will last you a lifetime. Applying a food grade wax to your board once a month is ideal. The boards are made from wood and wood is porous. The initial dipping and waxing fills in those pores but eventually after use the wax or oil disappears and needs to be reapplied. We use food grade mineral oil or Butcher Block wax. These can be found online or at your local hardware store. You just apply a good amount to a CLEAN board and rub it all over the board and let it soak in.
CAN I LEAVE MY BOARD OUTSIDE?
The answer is NO. Weather affects wood by either drying it out if left in direct sun for a long period of time or will soak up the water if it rains or high humidity. Both of these will warp the board. Imagine a wooden picnic table...it once looked beautiful and smooth but after awhile becomes warped and bumpy. If your board contains epoxy resin the wood portion of the board will warp but the epoxy will remain in the same spot so the board may crack if left out in the elements.
